About TED
Ideas worth spreading
TED started out in 1984 as an annual conference in California and had speakers such as Bill Clinton, Paul Simon, Bill Gates, Bono Vox, Al Gore, Michelle Obama and Philippe Starck. More than a thousand people now attend -- indeed, the event sells out a year in advance. About 500 of the talks are available on Ted.com website and have been seen by more than 50 million people from 150 countries. Each year the organizers choose an exceptional individual who will receive $100,000 to fulfill "One Wish to Change the World". With these four branches - TED Conference, TED Talks, TED Prize and TEDx - the organization wants to transform its motto "ideas worth spreading" in reality. "We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world", say TED organizers. We want that too. What about you?
About TEDx São Paulo
What does Brazil have to offer the world now?
Instilled with the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TEDx Sao Paulo is a nonprofit conference that will bring together more than 30 thinkers from areas of knowledge diverse as technology, science and business, to talk about their best ideas in 5 or 15-minute talks. The theme for this first installment of the event is: What does Brazil have to offer the world now? TEDx Sao Paulo will happen on November 14th, 2009, and it will be free of charge.
